After having bland, poorly painted white walls for so many years, my dream is to one day have snazzy wallpaper from Flat Vernacular sprucing up my rooms. I absolutely love their colors and patterns, but what drew me to Flat Vernacular is their craftsmanship: each of their patterns is hand-drawn and hand-printed. They can also create custom wallpapers, so now you can finally have your wall completely bespeckled with images of your cats.

We just celebrated our fifth edition of New England Home’s Cape & Islands with a party at Wychmere Beach Club in Harwich Port, Massachusetts, so I’ve got beachy-keen decor on my mind. I love how Corbett Lighting brings in reflections of the sea and sky with its new Dolcetti collection. This three-tiered, seven-light pendant is aglow with shell and crystal ornaments the color of sand and seaglass. It’s the perfect Cape-chic accessory for summer, on island or off.

You hear people complain all the time about the tediousness of polishing the silver, but I happen to enjoy the relaxing task. I love that you can immediately see the results of your labors as the tarnish fades and nothing but gleaming silver is left behind. Over the years I’ve tried a number of polishes, sprays and cloths. The one I have come to always depend upon I recently found out has its origins near my home in New Hampshire. Wright’s Silver Cream traces its roots to a muddy day in 1872 when the company’s founder noticed how mud on a cow’s bell left the silver noisemaker shinier than before. Sounds a bit far-fetched to me, but nearly 150 years later we’re still using it. To this day the family still maintains offices in Keene, New Hampshire. I hope they are prepared for me paying them a visit.

Yesterday we introduced Week 1 of our alternating biweekly posting schedule. But that’s only half of what we have planned. Cool resources found online, what’s new in shops and showrooms around New England, books of note, design details seen on the street, personalities, historical background, analysis of trends—all this and more will be part of the mix. And naturally we’ll provide links to related parts of our unparalleled Web content and gorgeous photography. Here’s a quick outline of what you can expect from us every second week:

Mondays: Contributing Editors Cheryl Katz and Karin Lidbeck Brent check in with Notes from the Field, a compendium of fascinating ideas and observations culled from their travels, real and virtual.

Tuesdays are always guest blogger days. Our first pair of participating experts: Boston-based designer Leslie Fine and Linda Merrill, host of ::Surroundings:: and The Skirted Roundtable, who will alternate posts through February 8.

Wednesdays: Senior Editor Paula Bodah produces Designer Snapshot, a series of mini-conversations with the most talented and insightful designers and architects in our region.

Thursdays: Editor-in-Chief Kyle Hoepner weighs in with Editor’s Miscellany. Notes, jottings, photo essays, polls, interviews, design musings—who knows what you might find here over time?

Fridays: It’s once again time for Friday Favorites, where our editors share their design picks of the week.

That’s it for an outline of the menu to be served at nehomemagblog.com. We hope you’ll come back again and again for a tasty bite. We look forward to sharing with you all that’s most interesting about architecture and home design, in New England and beyond. —Erin Marvin, Kyle Hoepner
